Biography

Born in Udine in 1951, Alberto Quoco began working as a photographer in the seventies. His early years as a photographer were spent experimenting with the medium and exploring its infinite expressive possibilities. A few years later he began to direct his attention to the human body and specifically to the relationship between form and movement, producing images which, particularly in the case of dance, “have an enormous visual impact and captivating composition” (Enzo Santese).

If dance modulates its rhythm to the limits of time, Quoco’s photography intervenes to announce that the image is temporal: not fixed/not frozen/not captured.

During the course of his work as a dance photographer, Quoco has worked with dancers and dance companies of international acclaim, such as Beatrice Carbone, Mick Zeni, Maximiliano Guerra, Paola Vismara of the Teatro Scala in Milan, Pina Bausch, Sylvie Guillem, the Ballet de l’Opera National de Bordeaux, the Eifman Ballet of San Petersburg, Momix, Jean-Fabre, the RBR Dance Company of Verona, the Balletto del Teatro di Torino, the Spellbound Dance Company, the Atacama dance company in Rome, the Pilobolus Dance Theatre, as well as many others.

His work has been exhibited in numerous theatres and events venues and he has contributed to many collective exhibitions. In 2005, Quoco won the NPS (Nikon Professional Service) professional photographer’s competition in Milan ( Creatività in Movimento section) and in 2007 his photo “Emotions” was selected from a total of 16,000 entries for third prize in the “Smile, Smile, Smile!” section of the Japan “Nikon Photo Contest International”, one of the world’s most prestigious photography competitions.
